Pupils at Shrewsbury consistently achieve exceptionally strong results placing us as one of the leading schools in the UK. 

In 2023, The Spectator named Shrewsbury School in their "Oxbridge Files" which lists the top 80 institutions in the UK for student progression to Oxford and Cambridge universities. Shrewsbury is one of the 33 independent schools that are featured in the 2023 list.

Academic excellence is achieved through a wide-ranging curriculum that uncovers and encourages a genuine love of learning, alongside inspirational teaching that challenges each pupil to strive for her or his own personal best.

A Levels and Destinations

In 2023, 87% of students progressed to their first-choice university destinations with 30% of Salopians enrolling in a university ranked in the world's top 50. 72% of pupils achieved A Level grades A* - B, closely matching results achieved in 2019. 91% achieved A* - B in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a separate Level 3 qualification designed to develop independent research and project management skills, which is valued highly by universities and employers.

Salopians’ preferred UK university destinations span a wide range, including Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Exeter, UCL, Edinburgh and Bristol.

An average of 10 Oxbridge offers per year have been received by Salopians over the last five years. Salopians who choose to apply to Oxford and Cambridge are supported through the process by our Futures Department as well as subject-specific teachers and tutors.

An increasing number of Salopians are choosing to study in top North American universities, with 13 students in 2023 enrolling in prestigious US Universities, including 7 taking up academic and sports scholarships, including:

    In 2023, 59% of grades were awarded 9-7 at IGCSE. Across all entries, over 453 grade 9/8’s were awarded to pupils and our five-year average of 9-7 grades awarded to pupils is 68%. The majority of pupils progress from Fifth Form to our Sixth Form, where our curriculum is based around A level qualifications.

    The Salopian Way is rich in heritage and tradition, but modern and forward-looking in outlook.

    It is an education for life.
