Following news in 2021 that Shrewsbury School and Tutor Impact will open a new premium international school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the partners are pleased to announce the following leadership appointments.

Founding Principal Toby Waterson joins the new school from North London Collegiate School Jeju, South Korea where he is currently Vice Principal (Pastoral) having joined at its inception in 2011. Toby has an extensive career in independent education with roles spanning prestigious schools in the UK and Brazil in addition to South Korea.

Toby commented: "I am thrilled to be joining Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh as Founding Principal. It is an immense honour to be entrusted with such a pivotal role in such an ambitious and significant project.  I look forward with excitement to working closely with esteemed partners, Shrewsbury School (UK), Tutor Impact and Meridian. It is indeed a compelling proposition to oversee the establishment of Shrewsbury School’s ethos and world-beating provision aside the Mekong. The educational landscape of Phnom Penh, and more widely in Cambodia, will become enriched by the establishment of the new Shrewsbury School. I must add after a wonderful decade in South Korea, my family and I are all excited at the prospect of immersing ourselves in a new physical environment and the Khmer culture!”

Deputy Head Early Years Charlotte Thomas joins the school from the Huili School Nantong, China where she was the Founding Head of Early Years. She has extensive early years and primary experience at exceptional schools in the UK, Spain and Myanmar in addition to China.

Charlotte said: “Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh offers an incredible opportunity to local children and families, as well as to us as leadership, and to our incoming staff teams. The combined experience and educational prowess of Shrewsbury School and Tutor Impact together will afford our new school every advantage and will enable us to truly enrich and enhance the lives of our students. I am incredibly excited to be leading a brand new Early Years once more, this time in beautiful Cambodia. I look forward to a very successful and exciting project and to being a key part of the founding leadership team which will establish an institution of true excellence.”

Co-Founder and CEO of Tutor Impact, Charles Wong, added: “I am so excited to invite two capable, passionate and visionary leaders on board with extraordinary international school experience across the regions with the full support of Shrewsbury School (UK) Governors and International Development Director, Maghin Tamilarasan. It is my honour to be a co-founder to kick off this meaningful and fruitful project in Cambodia to develop the next generation.”

Leo Winkley, Headmaster of Shrewsbury School, said: “We are thrilled to be opening Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh with our partners at Tutor Impact and look forward to engaging in a spirit of close and meaningful collaboration and idea-sharing. We look forward to supporting the development of world-class academic learning, co-curricular and pastoral provision, inspiring Cambodia’s future leaders, doers and makers.”
