Pupil volunteers Anna L (EDH, LVI) and Tom B (Ch, LVI) have reflected on their time working at the Headway Centre.

"We are part of the Present Peer Project that volunteer at the Headway centre on Thursday afternoons. Headway is a centre that aims to make life easier for people with acquired brain injuries and we aimed to make the garden more user friendly.

"When we first arrived, the garden was overgrown and the community were unable to access the outdoor space. Since November, we have managed to clear all the overgrowth and knocked down the shed. This has been a great challenge for us which we have taken in our stride.

For our plans in the garden we have raised £178 and communicated with the clients at the centre to ensure that the garden was to their liking. With this money and information our next steps in the garden include repainting and restoring the area with a new shed for tools and replanting the beds so that the space is welcoming and accessible.

"In between sessions, we have also completed a mindfulness course which has enabled us to learn communication skills and work as a team. On top of the physical work in the garden, a lot of planning and decision making has gone into the process of our project. The element of the project that we have enjoyed most was the satisfaction of the garden finally coming together.

"Additionally receiving a video from the members of Headway showing their appreciation was very inspiring and made us really want to complete this garden to the best of our abilities."
