Last weekend saw the annual Christmas Fair return to Shrewsbury, raising more than £4,000 for the Shrewsbury Foodbank Plus.

Quod was filled with stalls, festive treats and live music, and was packed with visitors enjoying the range of goods on offer, all while raising money for charity.

Scarlet S (MSH, LVI) one of our pupil volunteers at the Foodbank, said: “It was amazing to see so many people coming to support our Christmas Fair.  It was an incredible event to get involved in especially for such a good cause.

“It took a lot of hard work from everyone coordinating and participating, setting up, running the stalls and tidying up, but it turned out really well and was a great experience.”

Head of Volunteering, Naomi Pritchard, added: “Whether it is bagging up items, stock control or organising it is brilliant to see the willingness of our large team of volunteers to assist others.

I am glad that over 20 of our students could help on the actual day to play their part.  A huge well done to everyone involved and for raising over £4,000 for the Foodbank.

Karen Williams, Team Leader of Barnabas Community Projects, added: “It's always such a great joy when the day of the Christmas Fair finally arrives. Months of work by a dedicated team of parents, former parents, staff and students have led to this point.

“This partnership with Shrewsbury School is much more than the Christmas Fair but the day itself is an opportunity for local independent retailers to showcase what they offer, whilst supporting the community through foodbank PLUS. This local feel reflects the ethos of foodbank PLUS, supporting those in our locality in crisis, whether that's monetary poverty, relational or poverty of opportunity. Many people comment on the special feel of the intimate nature of the fair and how outstanding the students are, supporting stallholders and the team.

“It's a fabulous introduction to the Christmas season.

“Thank you to all those involved to make it such a special day and I wish you a very Merry Christmas.”
