A fourth former has won an American music award for best vocalist.

Cormac T (R, IV) won the Josie Award in Nashville, Tennessee for best vocalist aged 13 to 17 at the end of October.

The Josie Music Awards is an all-genre music award show ceremony which recognises and rewards outstanding talents and creativity across the independent music industry. Since its inaugural celebration in 2015, the Josie Music Awards was, is, and remains the largest independent artist award show globally.

Almost 60,000 singers enter the competition every year.

Director of Music Maria McKenzie said: “It’s fantastic that Cormac has been recognised internationally for his singing, having arrived at Shrewsbury with already impressive CV, he continues to shine with his vocal talents. It’s even more impressive that Cormac didn’t just get nominated for a Josie Award but that he went on to win the Vocalist of the Year (13-17) category.

"Having the opportunity to attend the red-carpet event must have been hugely memorable for Cormac, hopefully there will be plenty more in the future!”
