Chapel Choir performs at Westminster Abbey

Sixty members of the Chapel Choir were afforded the opportunity to sing in Westminster Abbey.
After a speedy refuel at Pizza Express, we were ushered through the winding cloisters and corridors of Dean's Yard before arriving to rehearse in St Margaret's Church, which is next door. Following a quick run-through, we proceeded to rehearse in the Abbey, with most of us gazing up in awe at the exquisite and ornate ceiling.
The chance to sing in choir stalls steeped in centuries of history felt both auspicious and invigorating. The choir brought electrifying determination to all their singing: Howells' Collegium Regale soared through the building, and Charles Wood's O Thou the Central Orb was delivered with purpose, grandeur and fizzing excitement - all before a congregation of parents and hundreds of tourists.
It was such a privilege to be part of the liturgy inside a building with such an ancient soul. As their choirmaster, I felt an enormous sense of pride in how the choir rose to the occasion and, more keenly than ever, appreciated the tremendous power of how music unites us.
