Hazel C (V, MSH), has spent the past 10 days with the National Youth Orchestra on their Winter Residency, working under the direction of conductor Alexandre Bloch.
The orchestra brings together 160 young musicians who have been rehearsing intensively to prepare the repertoire for their Shimmer tour.
Beginning at the Barbican Hall in London on Sunday, followed by performances at Warwick Arts Centre on Monday and the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Tuesday, the tour offered Hazel an unforgettable experience of extraordinary musicianship and the exhilarating energy of such a large ensemble.
The impressive programme included Debussy’s Iberia, Ravel’s Rapsodie Espagnole, and Anna Clyne’s remarkable cello concerto, Dance. Hazel also had the honour of working with the outstanding tutor Timothy Lines, making the residency even more inspiring.
Hazel said:
“Today is the third day of the NYO winter residency and I dare say that it is one of the best experiences I've had in my life so far. It is completely mind blowing to play in a big orchestra with such high standard.”
