Shrewsbury
Historic Violin Donated to the Music Department.

A historic violin dating back to the 19th century has been donated to the School by an Old Salopian who started at Shrewsbury during WWII.
John Harris (Rt 1943-48) gave the violin, which was made in Germany c1898, to the Music Department. It belonged to his father who was a Solicitor in Shotton, near Queensferry. His grandfather was Director of John Summers Steel and has family connections to the Irvines including Everest explorer Sandy.
The violin has been renovated by Julian Batey in Shrewsbury thanks to Nick Randall (O 1972-76)

Director of Music Maria McKenzie was delighted to receive the violin from Nick as string instruments, unlike wind, do not decay with age and it’s hoped the violin will be played by students who wish to try out the instrument for the first time.
