Shrewsbury Saracens take on Eton Ramblers in the Cricketer Cup

Spectators were treated to a delicious lunch on a glorious day as the Old Salopian cricketers took on their old rivals.
The Cricketer Cup is a prestigious annual knockout competition for the alumni of 32 public schools. Established in 1967 as the sport's equivalent of the Halford Hewitt golf tournament, it is contested in a limited-overs format with matches played throughout the summer.

The Shrewsbury Saracens have won it three times in 1977, 1987 and 2012 and the three successful captains: Nicko Williams, Richard Tudor and Tom Cox were among the spectators supporting the current side on Sunday. The Salopian Club and the Shrewsbury School Foundation jointly hosted a wonderful buffet lunch prepared by the School caterers Sodexo in a festive marquee. The sun shone and it couldn't have been a more perfect setting for a day of reminiscing about famous victories, catching up with old friends and enjoying the cricket.

It was also the 86th birthday of Saracens President and all round legend Nicko Williams who has done so much over the years for Old Salopian cricket.

Despite a blistering start, with the Saracens reducing the Ramblers to 10-4, Eton recovered impressively thanks in large part to a century from one of their batsmen. Ed Pollock was one of four former professional cricketers in the Shrewsbury side and entertained with a fluent 67 before being dismissed. The Saracens ultimately finished 30 runs short of Eton's total.
Final score: Eton Ramblers 290-6 (50 overs) beat Shrewsbury Saracens 260-9 (50 overs) by 30 runs.
