Shrewsbury's male 1st XI cricketers have already earned recognition for their early season performances, with an incredible seven of them being selected for First Class County sides this summer.

This follows a fantastic start to the season, which has seen them record eight victories already, including fine wins over Repton, Malvern, Worksop, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. They have already passed 300 four times, with totals of 399-7 against Worksop and 322-7 against Repton.

When Lancashire U18's began their game against Yorkshire U18's last week, Salopians Liam Y (LVI, Ch) and Liam G (UVI, I) had the honour of opening the batting for Lancashire together, with the pair scoring over 170 runs between them during the match. Liam Y top-scored with 83 in the first innings, while Liam G hit 52 in the second.

Their selection means that seven of this year's 1st XI boys have now represented a professional side's pathway teams this year, which is testament to the hard work they have put in throughout the off-season. Four other boys lower down the school have also been involved with professional teams this year, while Oscar H (IV, Ch) and Gurjeevan A (IV, R) have been selected for the first stage of the prestigious Bunbury U15 selection process. Salopians have featured heavily for Lancashire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Glamorgan and Derbyshire, with professional coaches full of praise for their performances. More than 20 other boys have been involved with National County and other regional sides, with huge representation in club cricket across the country. It is wonderful to see our pupils enjoying and succeeding in their cricket at all levels.
