Old Salopians at Henley Regatta 2026

Hundreds of Old Salopians were in Henley for the Regatta.
Many were there to spectate and enjoy one of the world’s most picturesque sporting events, but some were competing at the highest level or reuniting on the water to relive past glories.
For the second year running a Sabrina crew made up of recent leavers qualified for the Thames Challenge Cup, a fantastic achievement given how little time the crew have together to train. They lost in the first round to a strong American crew, but it is hugely encouraging to see our Old Salopian crews rowing competitively and growing stronger every year.

On the Tuesday and Saturday the RSBCC and Sabrina host lunches under a gazebo in the car park at Henley Cricket Club for RSBCC crews and their families, Old Salopians and supporters. Both were very well attended with around 350 people visiting across both days. It’s a wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends and former coaches and to celebrate Salopian rowing.

There was also a very special row past at teatime on Saturday. Sabrina Captain Nick Randall (O 1972-76) had assembled members of the 1975 and 76 crews who won the prestigious Princess Elizabeth Cup for a reunion lunch at Leander Club. Afterwards they took to the water, one even travelled from Tasmania to take part.

Our OS rowers continue to shine at the highest level too. GB Rower Matt Rowe (SH 2015-17) was in the Oxford Brookes University and Leander Club crew who won the Grand Challenge Cup and Abi Adebiyi (M 2017-19) was in the Wargrave Challenge Cup winning eight with Thames Rowing Club.

There was also one last opportunity to thank Director of Rowing Athol Hundermark before he leaves Shrewsbury for his native South Africa.
