On Saturday, the 1st VIII travelled with nine crews to Dorney Lake for a full match‑up against Eton College.

As the first side‑by‑side racing of the year, the fixture provided excellent preparation ahead of the upcoming regattas. It was especially valuable for our J15 athletes, who gained important experience in attaching to stakeboats, steering on a multi‑lane course, familiarising themselves with the National Schools venue, and developing competitive confidence in true side‑by‑side racing.

Across the club, the match finished with two wins apiece. However, with the 1st VIII completing a clean sweep of all three races against Eton’s top boat, Shrewsbury secured the W.E.K. Anderson Bowl.

Our sincere thanks go to Eton College for hosting us so warmly.

Mr Athol Hundermark i/c of Rowing
