Shrewsbury's Annual Wind Festival

On Sunday we held our annual Wind Festival, which brought together more than sixty wind players.
The day commenced with an ensemble class in which students worked in small trios and quartets. In only two short rehearsals, they prepared a piece for performance in a concert for parents and guardians. A wide range of abilities was represented, and the event provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop their leadership and aural skills.
After a short interval, the programme continued with the first of two recital classes. The senior class, designed for students of Grade 8 to first diploma standard, included performances by thirteen participants.
The day concluded with the advanced class, a keenly contested class that provided our most accomplished wind players with the chance to present demanding and sophisticated repertoire.
The event was adjudicated by Rebekah Abramski, Second Bassoonist with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She commended the exceptionally high standard of performance within our wind department.
