Pupils at Shrewsbury School have achieved impressive success in the 2026 Royal Society of Biology Olympiad, a prestigious international competition designed to challenge and inspire the next generation of biologists.

This year saw 27 Salopian pupils take part in the demanding academic competition, the majority from the Lower Sixth, despite the Olympiad being primarily aimed at Year 13 students. The Olympiad is a highly competitive event, with 18,800 students from 1,132 schools worldwide participating in 2026.

Shrewsbury pupils performed exceptionally well across all award categories. Special recognition goes to Hamish M, who achieved the highest score among all Salopian entrants and secured a Gold award, placing him in the top 5% of competitors worldwide. Fellow Lower Sixth pupil Elsa L also achieved outstanding success, earning a Silver award.

Dr Torin Morgan, Head of Biology, said:

“The Biology Olympiad is a rigorous and demanding competition that stretches students well beyond the school curriculum, so these results are a fantastic achievement.

"I am particularly delighted to see so many Lower Sixth pupils taking part and performing so strongly against a global field. Their success reflects not only their academic ability but also their enthusiasm for exploring biology in greater depth.”

Salopians were recognised with a strong set of awards:
