Salopian Musicians Take Centre Stage

Joanna C and Chit S performed as semi-finalists in the Wales International Junior Piano Competition, despite not winning, they did incredibly well to perform in such a high-level competition and received some valuable feedback that they can take away to work on during the coming weeks.
Hazel C, Bob L and Shawn L performed with the National Youth Orchestra for their Unite Course, which enabled musicians from NYO and the local community to connect through their passion for music. The Birmingham Day was one of six days nationally that enabled young musicians to make some incredible music together.
Bob L (L6th, S) gave his debut performance with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), Youth Orchestra, during the October exeat and featured Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7. It was a truly memorable experience, one that will undoubtedly remain with him for many years to come. Playing alongside three conservatoire bassoon students was an incredible experience for Bob and being part of such a prestigious ensemble is both an exceptional honour and a valuable opportunity, and we congratulate Bob on this remarkable achievement.
Shawn L (French horn) and Hazel C (clarinet) were honoured to be selected as semi-finalists in the prestigious Gregynog Young Musician of the Year competition, which was held for the first time in the Maidment Building. The standard of performance throughout the event was exceptional, and being chosen to compete at this level, alongside musicians from leading Junior Conservatoires and specialist music schools, was a significant achievement in itself.
Hazel distinguished herself further by being selected as one of five finalists, earning the opportunity to perform again in the evening Grand Final. Her performance was outstanding, demonstrating not only technical excellence but also a remarkable ability to communicate the music with depth and sensitivity. We extend our warmest congratulations to Hazel for her superb achievement and for representing Shrewsbury’s musical excellence at such a high level.
