It was a delight to see 171 pupils volunteering to take part in the Senior Maths Challenge just before Exeat; our largest entry into this prestigious UKMT competition taken around the world. Over three different sittings pupils wrestled with these highly challenging problems for an hour, with 25 multiple choice questions to face.

All who took part did themselves proud but I must highlight the 30 pupils achieving a gold certificate which is extremely impressive; only 11% of entrants are given this level of award. All 30 of them now face a follow on round in a few weeks time.

Four of those pupils, Zara W, Leo X, Kaisei T and Hironari N, have been invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad. This is the 2nd round of examinations to be part of the International Olympiad Team and is a highly impressive accolade; only 1000 young people are invited to take part in the BMO. I am excited to see how all 30 pupils fare in the follow on rounds on Wednesday 19th November.
