Stress Awareness Day – Wednesday 5 November

At Shrewsbury, we understand that our pupils are growing up in an increasingly complex world.
While this offers exciting opportunities, it can also be challenging and at times, stressful, for young people. On Stress Awareness Day, we reaffirm our commitment to helping pupils navigate these pressures with confidence and resilience.
Our pupils lead busy lives, balancing academic demands with sport, music, house events, and co-curricular activities. We recognise that finding a balance is not always easy, especially in exam years, and we work hard to support pupils’ wellbeing throughout their journey here.
Our wider pastoral network provides opportunities for informal conversations with staff, peer support, and access to workshops and lectures from external speakers. Personal and Social Development lessons in the lower school offer a structured space to explore emotional wellbeing, friendships, and change.
House workshops and assemblies cover vital topics such as recognising signs of mental health change, managing stress and anxiety, understanding common issues such as depression, and accessing the right support. Pupils also learn to build mature friendships, resolve conflict constructively, and navigate relationships, both personal and professional, with respect and care.
The Wellbeing Hub and Teen Tips is our online partner for supporting pupils and our Health Centre medical team is always available to offer expert advice as well as our counselling partner Sea Change. Together, these initiatives provide a strong foundation for pupils to manage their academic, personal, and social lives positively—and face an uncertain world with hope and positivity.
