Shrewsbury’s Germanists recently enjoyed outstanding success in the prestigious Oxford University German Olympiad, with two Shrewsbury teams winning their categories and two pupils receiving Highly Commended awards.

The competition challenged students to complete a range of creative tasks in German, including designing a fantasy travel board game, producing a short film and podcast exploring sustainable travel, and imagining what transport might look like in the future.

Among the winners were Violet H (M, LVI), Tess I-P (M, LVI), Lulu G (QEH, LVI) and Emilia G (MSH, LVI), whose sustainable travel project impressed the judges, while Lydia C (QEH, V), Hazel C (MSH, V), Chit S (R, V) and Mia Zhang (QEH, V) won the fantasy board game category.

In the individual awards, Anthea T (MSH, III) received a Highly Commended Award for her comic strip depicting a journey undertaken by two animals, while George H (Rg, III) was also Highly Commended for his imaginative work exploring transport in 2050.

The School now looks forward to attending the prizegiving ceremony at the Bodleian Library at Oxford University on Thursday 25th June.

Congratulations to all of the pupils who took part in this year’s competition.
