Restart Africa Hockey 7s Raises Over £2,500 in Fantastic Community Event
On Sunday 17th May, Shrewsbury School proudly hosted the Restart Africa Hockey 7s Festival across the Radbrook and Porthill astroturfs, bringing together the hockey community for a day of sport, fundraising, and enjoyment.
Despite final figures still being confirmed, the event is expected to have raised over £2,500 in support of Restart Africa, an incredible achievement made possible by the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.
The day welcomed over 500 participants and supporters, spanning all age groups from Under 8s through to adult hockey, showcasing the inclusive and vibrant nature of the sport.
- Morning session: U8, U10 and U12 teams took to the pitches, enjoying fast-paced, competitive matches in a fun and supportive environment.
- Afternoon session: The action continued with U14 and senior matches, as players of all abilities came together to continue the fundraising effort.
We were delighted to host teams from a wide range of clubs, including:Bloxwich HC, Aston University, Newport HC, Bridgnorth HC, Telford HC, Shrewsbury HC, alongside Shrewsbury School pupils and staff.
Matches were played in an excellent spirit throughout the day, combining healthy competition with a strong sense of community. Off the pitch, players and supporters enjoyed a fantastic BBQ, helping to create a festival atmosphere across both sites.
This event is a testament to the power of sport in bringing people together and making a meaningful difference. A huge thank you goes to all clubs, players, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to such a successful day.
We look forward to building on this success in future years and continuing to support the important work of Restart Africa.
