Over the last week of the holiday sixty-one Senior and J16 rowers and coaches travelled to Spain for the Boat Club’s first foreign training camp in two and a half years.

The Boat Club returned to Laias in Ourense on the banks of the river Minho. The fantastic weather conditions were matched by the hotel and training facilities and provided the perfect location for training, recovery and revision. The purpose of the training camp is to finalise crew selection for the summer regatta season and to develop race profiles. The opportunity to train on a wide still body of water provides a welcome change to the sometimes erratic and twisty section of the Severn we call home.

Despite all the challenges of delays over the past few years and increased travel logistics it was wonderful to be back on camp with all the experiences it presents. The regattas come thick and fast over the next six weeks with the J15’s and J16’s travelling to the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham this Saturday to start things off at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta.
