We are thrilled to announce a double triumph in sports excellence at the Shropshire Schools’ Sport Association Awards evening, bringing home not one, but both of the Secondary Schools prestigious awards on offer.

Firstly, our U17 Boys' Cricket Team has clinched the esteemed John Beswick Award for National Achievement. Wins against Manchester Grammar, Repton and others along the way to beating Winchester College in the Final at Loughborough University, led to being crowned back-to-back National Winners for the first time in the trophy’s history.  This highlighted their skill and teamwork propelling them to this remarkable victory, showcasing the true spirit of sportsmanship and excellence. Their triumph is a testament to the hard work and commitment of both the players and their coaches, who have tirelessly nurtured their talent and guided them towards success.

Adding to our accolades, our Girls' Coxless Four Rowing team secured The Derek Hayward Award for National Achievement. Their incredible strength, determination and unity on the water have earned them this prestigious honour, highlighting their exceptional prowess in the sport of rowing. Along the way this team won Gold Medals at both the Wallingford and Nottingham City Regatta’s before finishing runners-up at the National Schools Regatta.  Their achievement underscores the importance of perseverance and camaraderie in achieving greatness.

Furthermore, we are immensely proud to recognise several of our students who have been honoured by the Shropshire Schools' Sports Association for their outstanding contributions to national and international sporting representation. These students have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in their respective sports, serving as exemplary ambassadors for our school and community on the global stage.

These include: Oscar C (O, UVI), Louis C (I, UVI) and Ollie Sharp (PH, 23) for representing England in U18 ISFA Football; Alice Colclough (G, 23) (GB) Katie H (MSH, UVI) (Wales), Head of School Natalia T (EDH, UVI) (GB) in Rowing; Iris Downes (G, 23) (GB), Jack K (SH, LVI) (Isle of Man & England), and Will Singleton (R, 23) (England) in athletics, and fresh from playing in the U19 World Cup in South Africa Theo W (O, UVI) (Cricket).

Their achievements not only inspire us all but also serve as a reminder of the potential that resides within each and every one of our students. Whether on the cricket pitch, the rowing course, or representing our school on a national or international level, they embody the values of excellence, perseverance and sportsmanship that we hold dear.

As a school, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our award-winning teams and individual athletes. May your achievements serve as inspiration for the next generation of pupils to come, as we continue to strive for greatness both on and off the field.
