Old Salopians enjoy a special evening in the Long Room at Lord's

The 2025 President of the Salopian Club is former cricketer and CEO of the England and Wales Cricket Board Tim Lamb (SH 1966-71)
Through his extensive contacts in the sporting and entertainment world Tim was able to organise a truly memorable evening at the historic home of English cricket for members of the Salopian Club.

Guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal under the watchful eye of the country’s cricketing greats whose portraits adorn the walls of the Long Room, and with the hallowed pitch as a backdrop.
After dinner Tim entertained the crowd with some anecdotes from his career and gave a round of thanks before handing over to Lord Jeffrey Archer who conducted the auction on a pro bono basis. Tim had assembled a spectacular list of items and experiences thanks to the generosity of his Old Salopian friends and contacts including the opportunity to play golf in a pro-am tournament at the Belfry and a training session with a coach from the football League Managers Association. Money raised will be used to offset the cost of the dinner and to subsidise future Salopian Club events.

The after-dinner speech was given by Salopian broadcasting legend Nick Owen (R 1961-66). Nick is winding down his speaking engagements but agreed to appear because of his friendship with the President. He amused everyone with tales from his long career in television and spoke with warmth about the impact his education at Shrewsbury had on his later life.

It was a wonderful evening of top-draw entertainment and hospitality with the usual warmth and camaraderie of a Salopian Club event.
