Emma Darwin Hall opened in September 2011 for Sixth Form girls, thus becoming the second girls' house at Shrewsbury School.  Our first girls' house, Mary Sidney Hall, was also purpose-built and opened its doors to girls in September 2008 when Shrewsbury's Sixth Form became co-educational. A third girls' house - The Grove - was opened in September 2014, when we moved to full co-education at Shrewsbury and welcomed our first cohort of Third and Fourth Form girls. A fourth girls' House - Moser's Hall - was opened in September 2017.

Emma Darwin Hall provides superb accommodation for both day girls and boarders. The accommodation is light and airy yet cosy. The social spaces are generous and the house is modern in every sense. The girls enjoy their own courtyard and gardens.

Meet the Housemaster...

Will Reynolds took over as Emma Darwin Hall’s Housemaster at the start of the Lent Term 2020, having previously been the assistant in the boarding house for the past two years. He continues to be a member of the Design and Technology Faculty.

Will was educated at Beechen Cliff School, Bath, and then undertook a Naval Engineering apprenticeship at BMT Defence and Security UK whilst studying at Bristol College and being heavily involved in the company’s STEM outreach programme. Upon finishing his apprenticeship, Will decided the lure of teaching was too hard to resist and read Design and Technology with Education and Qualified Teachers Status at Sheffield Hallam University, achieving a first class BSC and winner of the Brightest Spark Award in 2012.

Will is a keen sportsman, having played rugby from a young age for Bath Rugby and continued playing whilst at University. In his final year he took up rowing and continued his involvement with rowing whilst here at Shrewsbury. Notably, Will, was the coach of the Senior Girls' Rowing crew that won a silver medal at National Schools' Regatta in 2019 and reached the semi-final at Henley Royal Regatta in the same year. Furthermore, Will was instrumental in the relaunch of the Rovers, Shrewsbury’s outdoor and adventure club, in 2015 and until recently organised and delivered the Thursday Afternoon Activities programme.

Will has a love for the outdoors and is a mountain biking enthusiast, and generally will have a go at any outdoor activity that is thrown at him. He loves travelling to new places, and many of these adventures have happened since he met his wife over ten years ago.

Will married his wife Alice in 2016. Alice grew up in Shropshire and attended a local boarding school, whilst her brothers attended Shrewsbury. She gained a BA in Hispanic Studies at Bristol University before going on to take her Primary PGCE at Manchester University and is currently a Year 2 teacher.

Will and Alice have two children, Albert (2018) and Mabel (2020). As a family they enjoy travelling and camping trips where they can pursue their interests in cycling and walking.
