Leadership

Senior Deputy Head

Senior Deputy Head

Led by Odgers, applications are invited for the position of Senior Deputy Head at Shrewsbury School from September 2026.

Shrewsbury School, Independent School of the Year 2020, enjoys a worldwide reputation for excellence across academic endeavour, sport, music, drama and service. Founded by Royal Charter in 1552 and one of the ‘great seven’ boarding schools, the school is fully co‑educational with some 845 pupils aged 13–18, three‑quarters of whom are full boarders. Shrewsbury was awarded a ‘Significant Strength’ for partnership and community engagement in its March 2024 ISI Inspection, and its pupils continue to achieve impressive outcomes, including 77% A*–B at A Level in 2025.

Shrewsbury’s educational philosophy—Floreat—sits at the heart of its purpose, nurturing intellectual curiosity, personal development and the Six Salopian Virtues of wisdom, kindness, courage, integrity, self‑mastery and spirit. Pupils belong to a vibrant community of 12 integrated houses and enjoy an exceptional breadth of opportunities on the School’s 110‑acre riverside site. As part of the expanding Shrewsbury Family of Schools, which now comprises nine schools in the UK and overseas, the Senior Deputy Head will join a dynamic and outward‑looking organisation with ambitious plans for the years ahead, as Shrewsbury approaches its 475th anniversary in 2027.

This appointment comes at a particularly exciting moment in the School’s long history, with record pupil numbers and growing national and international reach. Working closely with the Headmaster and CEO of the Shrewsbury Family of Schools, Leo Winkley, the Senior Deputy Head will play a central role in ensuring the day‑to‑day thriving of a busy, values‑driven school community. This position is particularly well‑suited to an ambitious individual, eager to take on Headship in the future. The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader with strong educational values and a collaborative, enabling style that will help them to bring the best out of others.

Further information can be found at www.odgers.com/95283. Covering letters and CVs should be sent by 9.00am GMT on Friday 6 February to Freddie Dennis at Odgers.
