Academic Success
Academic life at Shrewsbury focuses on developing intellectually curious young adults who are able to think critically and creatively.
Pupils build the confidence to question and to challenge and are equipped with the skills that they will need to thrive at all stages of life.
Whole Person Education
We expect our pupils to work hard and to aim high. There should be no ceiling to the academic ambition of a Salopian. Small classes, excellent teachers and our approach to whole person education ensure each individual is known, challenged and guided.
Our pupils aspire to a love of scholarship and we prepare them to achieve success in public examinations and beyond. We understand that academic fulfilment is not confined to examination results, but should embrace a whole person approach for each individual.
We celebrate involvement in all areas of academic life and academic passions are fostered both inside and outside the classroom via pupil-led academic societies, a comprehensive programme of academic trips, and enriching activities in all areas of the School, such as the wide range of visiting lecturers we host or by achieving significant success in national academic competitions.
Academic Results
At A Level,
77% of pupils achieved A–B*, with 39 pupils securing straight A–A*, results that place Shrewsbury pupils in a strong position for highly selective university pathways.
At IGCSE,
In 2025, 60% of grades were awarded 9–7. Across all entries, pupils achieved 616 grade 9/8s, and over the past five years our average stands at 44% for grades 9–8 and 60% for grades 9–7.
These results are not an end in themselves, they are the springboard to futures full of opportunity.
