Professor Catherine Rowett: Getting our political values right: the urgent search for a better politics and a happier future

Catherine Rowett is a politician from the Green Party of England and Wales, and a professor of Philosophy (emerita) at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

She was elected as a Green Party County Councillor for the West Depwade division in South Norfolk in 2023. Previously she served as a Green Party Member of the European Parliament for the East of England 2019-2020. Her roles in the Green Party have included: National Spokesperson for work, employment and social security, convener of the Europe Policy Working Group, Deputy Coordinator of Eastern Region Green Party.

Her teaching and research speciality is ancient Greek philosophy, and she is currently working on Plato’s Republic and on the early Greek philosophers. She has published seven books and over 60 articles and chapters.

In her talk, she will touch in important issues such as the philosophy of work and leisure and the question of what we ought to measure to judge whether a society is good to live in.  She will also share her journey into Green politics and her views on the importance of collaboration with our European neighbours.
