Shrewsbury School Gala Concert in Birmingham Town Hall, Sunday 18th March at 7.30pm
A reminder that next Sunday, all those who are within reaching distance of Birmingham are warmly invited to come and enjoy an evening of Shrewsbury School Music at its finest and most exciting in the splendour of Birmingham Town Hall.
The first half of the evening features two outstanding soloists: Matthew Poon (I LVI) will perform Lalo’s spell-binding first movement of the Symphonie Espagnole for solo violin and orchestra; and Harry Lawrence (O UVI) will play the first movement of Mozart's wonderful Eb Major Horn Concerto no 3. (Harry has just been awarded a place to study the French Horn at the Royal Northern College of Music.)
The major work in the second half of the concert is Mozart’s glorious Requiem, when the Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the massed voices of the Shrewsbury School Community and Chapel Choirs, with guest soloists Kathryn Turpin and Jonathan May, who head up the School’s Singing Department, tenor Jamie MacDougall, who is currently singing a solo role with Scottish Opera, and Natalie Clifton-Griffith, who sings with some of the country’s top professional choirs as well as having a very busy career as a soloist and teacher (and wife of Assistant Director of Music Alex Mason).
Tickets for the concert are £10 and available from the Birmingham Town Hall Box Office, www.thsh.co.uk or 0121 780 3333.
We very much hope that as many audience members as possible will also join us for a Drinks Reception from 6.15pm in the Birmingham Art Gallery nextdoor to the Town Hall. Please contact the Marketing Office to let us know if you would like to attend.
We will also be organising a Supporters' Coach to Birmingham, departing from the Alington Hall at 4.30pm and returning to Shrewsbury School after the concert. Tickets for this are £10 per person (payable on the day) and must be booked in advance, please, via the Marketing Office firstname.lastname@example.org or tel. 01743 280521.
An Evening of Chamber Performances by Shrewsbury School Musicians, Wednesday 21st March at 7.30pm in the Maidment Auditorium
Following the unfortunate cancellation of our concert in the Holywell Room in Oxford last weekend due to bad weather, we are delighted to have managed to find a slot in the final week of this term when our talented musicians will be able to perform the planned programme in Shrewsbury instead. Tickets are free and are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/shrewsburyschool
Lecture given by Lord Heseltine, Thursday 22nd March at 2.45pm in the Alington Hall
We are looking forward to welcoming Lord Heseltine to Shrewsbury to deliver this year's Thomas Pryce VC Memorial Lecture. There are a few tickets still remaining, which can be booked online via www.ticketsource.co.uk/shrewsburyschool. Please note that the lecture will start at 2.45pm, slightly later than the time advertised in the printed version of the Lent Term Fasti.
