Notices to Parents and Guardians
Reminder and Update - Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
As the Headmaster’s note of February 4th stated, we continue to monitor the situation regarding the ongoing concerns over the Novel Coronavirus. We are consulting with our Medical Officer and continue to review the advice and guidelines from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), Public Health England (PHE) and the Boarding Schools Association (BSA). While this is clearly a dynamic situation, at this point in time we are taking the term ‘affected countries’ mentioned by the Headmaster, in his correspondence on 4th February to parents, to refer to mainland China only and the School strongly advises against any travel to that area. If this advice is not taken, then we will require those involved to self-isolate in the UK for a period of 14 days before being allowed back into the school community.
In addition, pupils should not have contact with friends or family from any of these areas if they fly into the UK until they have been here and symptom free for 14 days. Failure to adhere to this will require them to self-quarantine away from school for 14 days.
In addition to this advice, the most recent update from the BSA received 10th February advises that anyone travelling from the following countries should also self-isolate for the 14-day period upon return to the UK: Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Macau.
Although the BSA guidelines continue to exceed current FCO advice, the BSA also recommends that schools should plan for what could happen, rather than what has happened.
Any further update will be provided as the situation changes.
