House Singing Competition 2020 - Wednesday 9th December

We are proud to be able to beam the House Singing Competition into all Salopian households next week. That every pupil has been involved in this event is a triumph in itself, but I think you will see much more than that; top-class performances that are founded on optimism and a typical Salopian can-do attitude. As a new member of the Salopian community it has been a joy to behold the pupils’ focus and humour during these unusual times.

The House Unisons have been created by teams of singers, dancers, choreographers, camera crew, editors etc. The list is a long one that illustrates the wealth of talent, and character, in our midst. Showcasing fine skill, musicianship and teamwork the hotly-contested Part-songs will be a delight. David Lawrence, one of the UK’s pre-eminent choral directors will face the unenviable task of deciding who will take home the trophies.

Tune in and sit back!

Shrewsbury Food Bank PLUS Appeal for Christmas 2020

During the school’s House Singing Competition on 9th December, we shall make an appeal in support of our partnership with the Barnabas Centre and Shrewsbury Food Bank PLUS.  Usually at this time of year we have the pleasure of hosting a festive Christmas Fair to raise much needed seasonal funds, but our fundraising effort this time around will be virtual as you enjoy the singing performances and competition.

Our partnership with the Barnabas Centre and Shrewsbury Food Bank PLUS is extremely valuable to us – many students (and Salopian parents who live locally) have raised money and volunteered in various capacities over recent times.  This year the Food Bank PLUS won the prestigious Queen’s Award For Voluntary Service ( https://www.barnabascommunityprojects.org/qavs) and we are proud to be a committed supporter of their work.  Karen Williams, the Project Lead, will introduce our virtual appeal on the evening of the House Singing Competition, explaining that the service provided is currently in great demand given the ongoing issues created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

You will be able to give to the Food Bank PLUS by following this link to their Just Giving page - www.justgiving.com/foodbankplus

As we look forward to developing our partnership with the Food Bank PLUS and Barnabas Centre, there will be further opportunities for students and staff from school to think creatively to raise funds and to volunteer directly.

The Shewsy's Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 Update

As of 3.30pm Friday 4th December the Shewsy Big Give Christmas Campaign stands at £36,478 against its target of £40,000 (£20k + match funded limit of £20k).

This is fantastic news – warm thanks goes to all of you who have donated so generously in support of this appeal.  With 4 days still to go before the Big Give window closes, there is still time to donate – all additional monies will further enable the Shewsy to support young people and the wider community up in Everton.

Please follow this link for more details on how you can support The Shewsy and the young people of Everton.

Our Best Reads 2020

Here staff, students and colleagues share those books which have entertained, sustained, uplifted, and moved them this year. With so many books out there, it can be difficult to know which ones to pick up. There is nothing more persuasive than a book recommendation from a trusted friend. So that is what we have here. All the books listed come personally recommended by someone in our Shrewsbury School family.

If a title catches your imagination, please email library@shrewsbury.org.uk and we will provide it for you.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas break from the library team.
