Academic News Competition

Competing for a prestigious academic prize awarded at Speech Day, 35 academically ambitious Third & Fourth form pupils entered this year's Junior Essay Prize last Friday evening.

The challenge was to write a one-hour essay in response to a variety of syllabus-related extension questions. No prior preparation was required, and the essay tested the ability of the pupils to craft a carefully planned, academically creative and thoughtful essay with the clock ticking.

Over thirty questions were available covering all areas of the syllabus and beyond - entrants were encouraged to support their responses with material of intellectual interest to them rather than to merely regurgitate class material. This year's judging panel are currently considering the overall winner - watch this space for the announcement and to read this year's prize-winning entry.

You will find a copy of this year's question paper online
