Shrewsbury School was delighted to host two inspiring academic events, bringing together pupils from across the region to celebrate collaboration, curiosity and intellectual ambition.
The week began with the UKMT Team Maths Challenge, which welcomed members of the Shrewsbury Family of Schools, Packwood, Prestfelde and Terra Nova, alongside five other schools. Pupils worked in mixed teams, developing their mathematical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills while collaborating closely with Shrewsbury pupils. The competition concluded with a fantastic win for Terra Nova, with Packwood finishing a strong second and Old Swinford Hospital placing third, a brilliant display of friendly competition and shared endeavour.
Later in the week, Shrewsbury welcomed Year 5–6 pupils from prep schools shortlisted as finalists to the Sir Philip Sidney Finalists’ Workshop. Pupils enjoyed an varied programme of hands-on activities, including exploring geography and the economy, creating their own beehives, and learning about Shrewsbury’s Beekeeping Society. With an impressive 217 entries received, this year’s Sir Philip Sidney competition was an outstanding success, and congratulations go to all finalists, runners-up, winners and every pupil who submitted an entry.
Together, the two events showcased Shrewsbury’s commitment to providing inspiring academic experiences, supporting partnerships and engagement across schools, and inspiring young learners well beyond the classroom.
