Senior House Debating Competition 2026

The Senior House Debating competition concluded on Tuesday evening with a packed-out theatre audience there to support.
The Proposition was Moser's and Opposition Ridgemount as they clashed after a gruelling eight rounds of preliminary and knock-out debates.
Over the course of the competition, all twelve Houses had debates on topics ranging from the Online Safety Act to hypothetical ponds that granted immortality; however, this week the two remaining Houses met to consider whether the value of art came more from the creator or the interpreter.
Despite a strong start from Ridgemount (with their Captain, Caspian, opening with a speech that earned 'Speaker of the Day'), Moser's rose to the challenge and eventually secured victory.
Moser's Captain, Elsa, writes:
“It was a fierce and highly intellectual final to conclude 10 weeks of hard work everyone has put into the house debating competition this year!
“We debated the motion "This house would kill the author", a method of literary criticism familiar to every English teacher in the room and remains highly controversial today.
“Ridgemount captain Caspian opens the case strongly for the opposition side and was awarded speaker of the da.
“ Moser's is honoured to be awarded the victory, and I would like to also highlight the 100+ pupils participating in Senior debating each year, a testament to the strong academic culture at school. It is also a testament to Mr Bandy's incredible dedication to this competition and debating as a whole.
"I look forward to next year's motions.”
