International Caps for Shrewsbury Pupils in ISFA U18 Fixture

Shrewsbury played host to the ISFA U18 Boys representative side as they took on the Welsh Schools FA.
Two of Shrewsbury’s 1st XI footballers, Harrison V (UVI, O) and Bertie d P (UVI, SH) featured in the 2-1 victory on a rain soaked afternoon, a match made even more memorable as both players were presented with their ISFA caps.
Speaking to Harrison, who has represented ISFA through the age groups from U14 through to U18, “With the training camps over the years at places like St George’s Park and playing against a lot of the teams in the Hudl League and various national competitions, the standard has been really high but at the same time I have made friends through ISFA in the different schools.”
Reflecting on the game, Harrison added “It was a very close, competitive game, some good challenges went in with the weather how it was. Despite having various chances in front of goal, we ended the first half 1-0 down. Quickly after halftime, we pulled one back to 1-1 and then in the 65th minute we took the lead and we defended well to win 2-1 in the end.”
Goalkeeper Bertie added, “I joined Shrewsbury in the Sixth Form so my ISFA journey only really started in the last two years. Coming to the school has been a fantastic experience and I think you would struggle to find a school with a bigger footballing commitment; from the coaches to the ground staff that uphold these amazing pitches year on year allowing us to maintain the high levels we strive for.
“It was really nice playing at Shrewsbury, somewhere we are familiar with, our home ground. Even stepping into the changing rooms and knowing where everything is was a big help in settling in. I would also say that the other players were really appreciate of the facilities which was a really nice thing. Walking onto the pitch they were amazed at how well the pitch had held up given the conditions. Those little things make you realise how good it is to play football at Shrewsbury.”
Director of Shrewsbury Football and Assistant Manager of the ISFA U18 side, Steve Wilderspin, said:
“It is always a great honour for the School to host the Independent Schools Under-18 National representative team, and the annual international fixture against the Welsh Schools has long been a long standing fixture at Shrewsbury.
“This year felt especially significant, with two Shrewsbury pupils—Harrison (O) and Bertie (SH)—selected to play. ISFA secured a 2–1 victory against a strong Welsh side who will compete in the U18 Centenary Shield this year.
“Both Harrison and Bertie have represented ISFA and the School with distinction throughout the season, and their efforts were deservedly recognised when they received their international caps after the match. It was a privilege to witness this moment and to have followed their performances across the international campaign as part of the management team.
Harrison’s achievement is particularly notable, having been part of the ISFA representative programme since the Under-13 level and featuring in every year-group squad—a rare accomplishment. Bertie, meanwhile, earned his place in this year’s side after an outstanding season last year.”
Shrewsbury has a long history of success with ISFA, be it having pupils represent ISFA age groups from both the boys and girls programmes or success in ISFA competitions including being crowned National 6s champions in the 2023/24 season as well as finalists in the Boodles ISFA Cup in 2024/25.
