Shrewsbury
A fantastic season of Athletics

It has been a fantastic season, with pupils at all levels showcasing the true spirit of athletics - demonstrating that having a "be the best you can be" attitude is what the sport is built upon.
Striving to improve personal performance, regardless of the outcome, has been at the heart of every effort. Over 100 pupils have proudly represented the school, competing in both team events and as individuals, and we are excited to see how they continue to progress in athletics.
Achilles Relays
The term began with a team of over 40 Salopians travelling to Iffley Road, Oxford—the historic site of Sir Roger Bannister’s sub-4-minute mile—to compete in the Achilles Relays, the traditional curtain-raiser for the school athletics season. Founded in 1963 by Rt. Hon. Philip Noel-Baker, the event gave our athletes a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable race experience and work towards their personal bests.
It was a day of outstanding performances. Our boys’ teams finished 2nd in both the Open and U15 4x200m finals, having won their heats. Notable performances came from Monty W (S, LVI), Ralph C (S, LVI), Daniel O (Rt, UVI) and Ethan P (R, LVI) in the Open category, and Finian M (SH, III), Arran N (Ch, III), Rafe C, Hayyan M-O (Ch, IV), and Leo T (O, III) in the U15s.

English Schools’ Track and Field Championships
We are proud to announce that several of our athletes will be representing Shrewsbury School at the prestigious English Schools’ Track and Field Championships, taking place on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July 2025 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. This national event brings together the best young athletes from across the country, and we are thrilled to see our pupils competing at such a high level. For those who wish to support from afar, the championships will be live-streamed online, allowing friends, family and the wider school community to cheer on our athletes as they strive for personal bests and podium finishes.
We are incredibly proud of the team’s achievements and wish Jack K, Harry P-M, Meg H, Dele S and Gracie G the very best as they represent the school at National Schools in July.
