OS Emilie wins Silver in Drapers’ Guild Textile Competition

An Old Salopian, Emilie Millar (OS 2024), has had their work chosen for display for the annual Shrewsbury Draper's Guild Textile Competition.
Emilie’s work was selected to be exhibited in The Darwin Room, Shrewsbury Library, for the competition and she won a ‘Silver Award’.
There were around 90 entries to the Shrewsbury Draper's Guild Textile Competition, ranging from other schools, colleges and the general public.
Emilie Millar (OS, 2024):
“I made this dress for my GCSE final piece, there was multiple themes I could have chosen from such as music, dining rooms, construction and hair.
“I have always had an interest in textiles and the fashion industry and knew I wanted to make a textile piece for my end product. The theme I chose was hair, as I felt it had the broadest range of design ideas.
“My final piece took lots of trial and error, as making a garment fully from hair isn't very easy! I decided on making a corset top out of mohair, and a wet felting textiles technique to create my own fabric, followed by a crinoline made of hair extensions layered on top.
“I was very pleased with the outcome of my final product, and it is amazing to see this recognition in the Drapers Textiles Competition.”
