In the 15th year of the Tes Awards, Shrewsbury is a finalist in the following categories; Independent Senior School of the Year; Boarding School of the Year and Excellence in Creative Arts. This is following Shrewsbury School being Highly Commended in the 2021 Tes Awards in the Boarding School of the Year category.

The Tes Schools Awards recognises the very best schools from the UK’s state and independent schools.

The panel of awards judges includes school leaders, experts and education researchers. The objectivity, professionalism and high standards of the Tes Schools Awards judges and the judging process has helped establish them as a well-respected achievement for any school chosen as a finalist or winner.

Headmaster Leo Winkley commented: “We are thrilled that Shrewsbury School has been shortlisted in three categories for the prestigious Tes Schools Awards. To be nominated in categories that recognise the quality of our whole person education and the creative arts is a huge credit to the dedication of our pupils, teaching and support staff, and governors and supporters of Shrewsbury School.

“We are proud to offer our whole person education in a thriving boarding and day community and for this to be recognised in the Independent Senior School of the Year and Boarding School of the Year categories is testament to the hard work of staff and pupils.

“Following a stellar year of performing arts – from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to numerous plays, dance performances, musicals and concerts – it is fitting that our performers and the staff who inspired them are also recognised for their excellence and dedication.”

Tes editor and chief judge of the Tes Schools Awards Jon Severs said: “With these awards we honour the education community, whom we have served for over 112 years. This year has seen some incredibly high quality entries. So every teacher and school who has been named in this shortlist should be very proud – it’s a fantastic achievement.

“We are looking forward to showcasing, as we do every year, just how vital our education professionals are to every facet of this country. Teachers, leaders and support staff all play such an important role in schools: this is our chance to say thank you for all that they do.”

The Tes Schools Awards Winners will be announced on Friday 23rd June at a gala ceremony at London’s Grosvenor Park Hotel.
