Shrewsbury School 1st XI Football team is celebrating an unbeaten run in the Hudl Independent Schools League.

The last game takes place this weekend (Saturday, March 12th) between Bradfield and Royal Russell, and will determine whether Shrewsbury will finish either 1st or 2nd in the league, the team’s best-ever finish in the Hudl Independent Schools League (ISL).

The Shrewsbury School team has remained unbeaten in eight games, winning six and drawing two. This run includes a game against Charterhouse away, where the 1st XI won 6-1 with goals from James E (Rb, UVI), Harry C (PH, UVI and a hat-trick from Joe R-M (R, LVI). This is a record win in the 99-year history of this fixture.

As it stands if Bradfield win, they win the ISL - If Royal Russell win by 3-0 or by a two-goal margin if they score 4 or more, they win they ISL.

If Bradfield and Royal Russell draw or Royal Russell win by less than 3-0 or less than a two-goal margin if they score 4 or more, then Shrewsbury win the league.

Director of Football at Shrewsbury School, Steve Wilderspin, said: “It’s been an amazing season in which the whole squad has stepped up to the challenges presented to them against a number of the strongest independent schools in the country.

“To also have 18 players out of a squad of 19 that started the school in Third Form is something we are hugely proud of and is testament to our development programme that we can develop players and teams that can compete against the best schools on the circuit.

“Captain Harry C (PH, UVI) has been a regular in the ISFA U18 National Representative side this season, playing against the U18 Representative sides of the Welsh Colleges, The English Colleges, The Welsh Schools, The Scottish Schools and the England Schools & Colleges U18 International side, in a game we hosted at Shrewsbury.

“Current Lower Sixth Oli S (PH) was also selected for the game v ESFA. Again, this highlights that we have players in our programme that can play at the highest levels of ISFA and representative football which is terrific for the football club.”
