Lower Sixth Pupil Runs 262 Miles to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

My name is Clara McA, currently in the Lower Sixth Form at Emma Darwin Hall.
This past July and August, I embarked on a personal challenge that pushed me beyond my limits: running the equivalent of 10 marathons — 262 miles.
I did this in response to my mum's recent and very unexpected diagnosis of breast cancer, we were incredibly lucky that it was caught early, and this made me realise the huge importance of early detection of breast cancer and therefore the reason for my charity fundraiser. My aim was to raise money and awareness for a charity which focused on increasing early diagnosis of breast cancer in young people.
As someone who had never ran more than six miles before, this challenge was far from easy. Balancing the demands of a busy and hot summer tested my determination and mental strength!
What really kept me going on every run was the amazing support from my friends and family — their encouragement and generosity blew me away.
I’m so proud to have completed the challenge, and I hope by doing this challenge it has raised some awareness on how incredibly important it is to catch breast cancer early in hope to help other families who may experience something similar.
