Thursday’s Non-Uniform Day saw pupils across the school exchange their uniforms for a splash of blue, all in support of two important youth-focused charities.

Each pupil donated £2, with £1 supporting The Shewsy, Shrewsbury’s long-standing partner youth club in Everton. The Shewsy provides vital opportunities and support for young people living in challenging circumstances, and all funds raised will be match-funded through the Big Give campaign, effectively doubling the impact of every contribution.

The remaining £1 supported the Shropshire High Sheriff’s Youth Awareness Initiative, a local scheme encouraging “children to raise money for children.” Pupils were invited to wear something blue, from T-shirts and trainers to hair clips, to show their solidarity and help raise awareness.

John Dumbell, Senior Youth Worker at The Shewsy, expressed his thanks:

“Thank you so much for this kind donation to our Youth Centre. These funds will cover important costs associated with running both the senior and junior clubs, which are much needed by our local community.”

Jane Trowbridge, High Sheriff of Shropshire, also praised the school’s efforts:

“The students of Shrewsbury School have led the way, raising the incredible sum of £850 for the Youth Awareness Day initiative. This is a fantastic achievement and the funds will make a real difference to the lives of less advantaged young people in the county. They have shown that they not only recognise the challenges and difficulties facing many of their generation, but have actively done something positive to make a difference. I applaud their efforts and am very grateful for the donation.”

This initiative reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to service, partnership, and community engagement, values that continue to define Shrewsbury’s ethos of kindness and whole person education.

Naomi Pritchard, Head of Charities and Volunteering for Shrewsbury, said:

“It is truly energising and uplifting to see our school community united in support of such worthwhile causes. Thank you and well done to all the students and staff involved.”
