Congratulations to Zara W (V, M), who achieved a remarkable full score of 50/50 in the prestigious Maths Olympiad for Girls, placing her among the very top mathematicians in the country, an outstanding achievement for a Fifth Former.

Further congratulations go to Willa B (LVI, MSH), Yichen L (LVI, M), and Hannah M (LVI, MSH), who all achieved Distinctions in the Maths Competition for Girls, reflecting exceptional skill and dedication across Shrewsbury’s talented cohort.

Led by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), the Olympiad involves full written solutions over two and a half hours, while the newer 90-minute, answer-only paper for the Girls Mathematics Competition invites rapid reasoning and accuracy under pressure.

Alex Brogan, Head of Mathematics at Shrewsbury, said:

“These are truly impressive results that reflect not only the ability but also the intellectual curiosity and resilience of our pupils. Zara’s perfect score is an extraordinary achievement and one that speaks to her analytical precision and love of problem-solving. We are proud of all the pupils who took part, representing Shrewsbury with distinction and enthusiasm.

"Zara, Willa, Yichen and Hannah are just some of the pupils taking advantage of the super-curricular Maths we offer at Shrewsbury. With 3 internal competitions and 7 external competitions annually, alongside two Lower/Middle School and two Sixth Form Maths clubs, there is a lot of extension available at Shrewsbury for mathematicians of all abilities."

Mathematical competitions like these form an important part of Shrewsbury’s academic enrichment programme, inspiring pupils to think creatively and confidently, both in the classroom and beyond.
