Old Salopian Daisy Heintz Selected for Oxford Rugby Varsity Match

We are delighted to celebrate the success of Old Salopian Daisy Heintz (Grove, 2021–2023), who has been selected to represent University of Oxford in the Varsity Rugby Matches, to be played at StoneX Stadium in North London tomorrow, Saturday 28 February.
Daisy describes her selection as “a fantastic opportunity to represent Oxford, but also Shrewsbury School alumni on a grand stage”, adding that “it is an honour to be selected for the Blues.” Competing in the Varsity Matches is a major milestone in any rugby player’s career, and Daisy’s inclusion is a proud moment for the Shrewsbury community.
Reflecting on her journey into rugby, Daisy credits Shrewsbury’s sporting ethos with giving her the confidence to try new sports and take risks. She explains that being “encouraged and supported in trying new sports at Shrewsbury, including participating in the first year girls’ football was offered and of course learning to row, gave me the confidence to pick up rugby at university and make it onto the Blues team.”
She is keen for her story to inspire current pupils to remain involved in sport beyond school, noting the lasting impact of Shrewsbury’s approach: “I am so grateful to the school for promoting sport as such a key part of Salopian culture.”
Daisy also reflects on her school days, adding that she hopes “running the Tucks will prove to have been good preparation for running out onto the pitch at StoneX Stadium this weekend.”
We congratulate Daisy on this outstanding achievement and wish her every success as she represents Oxford, and the Salopian sporting spirit, on one of rugby’s most iconic stages.
