The cricket season has got off to a flying start for pupils at Shrewsbury.

The senior girls have enjoyed a very successful start to term, with victories in every match played so far over Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Trent, Repton and Sedbergh. Libby T (MSH, UVI) is leading the way with the bat, having scored 217 runs across 4 matches, with an average of 83.5. With the ball, young Emily C of EDH 3rd form is leading the way - taking 9 wickets across 4 matches at an average of 13.67.

A fantastic start to the year for the seniors and some brilliant momentum leading into the national cup window of the summer.

For the Juniors, it has been an up and down start to the summer. Having narrowly lost away at Wrekin College, the Girls rolled up their sleeves to win the U15 Indoor County Finals and pick up a narrow victory over Sedbergh at home. Leading the way with the bat is Olivia M (EDH, IV) having scored 47 in the victory over Sedbergh. With the ball Charlotte T (EDH, IV) is Miss Consistent, having taken 4 wickets across both games at an average of 15. The U15’s now look ahead to their National Cup fixture versus Bedstone later this week.

The boys’ 1st XI has had also an impressive start to the 2022 campaign, recording notable victories over Worcestershire Academy, Warwickshire EPP, Repton and Sedbergh.

Rhys L (Rt, LVI) has struck over 540 runs at an average of 77, being selected for Middlesex CCC 2nd XI in the process. Harvey W (SH, LVI) has also earned 2nd XI representation with Lancashire, while Louis H (S, IV) has featured for Cheshire EPP against Lancashire, as well as being involved in the Bunbury selection process.

Old Salopians JJ Fielding, Morgan Bevans and Xavie Clark have all been scoring heavily in the 2nd XI Championship, while Ed Barnard struck a career best 160 for Worcestershire in the County Championship. Ed Pollock is another OS century maker, while David Lloyd’s Glamorgan sit top of Division 2 of the County Championship.
