Shrewsbury School Germanists had the opportunity to watch a German play, 'das Gruselhaus' (The Scary House), performed by a foreign-language theatre company, Onatti productions.

The play, entirely in German, was a great success and there were many comical moments. It was most encouraging to see our students understand and follow the storyline of 'das Gruselhaus' and to willingly participate in the play when asked by the actresses to do so. Credit must be given to Andy F (III, Ingrams) who featured in the play towards the end and did his best to follow the instructions of the actresses in German.

He certainly provided the audience with a lot of entertainment. Congratulations also to James B-D (IV, Riggs) and Anthea T (III, MSH) who bravely stepped onto stage. At the end of the play, all of the audience were presented with some very German Haribo and a badge with a commonly used word in German. Many thanks also to Shrewsbury High School for bringing along their Germanists and to all the staff in the German department for attending.

Mia Z (V, QEH), said:

“It was a perfectly suitable play for our German level- it seems magical in a sense actually understanding quite a few dialogues. We loved how interactive it was…”

Kirsten L (V, M) said:

“I really enjoyed the play; it was not only very funny it also helped me in my German listening as they emphasise long or important words for us to understand.”

Mr Richard Yardley, Head of German
