The start of term has been filled with energy, discovery, and camaraderie as our new entrants took part in Shrewbury's Foundation Fortnight, a programme of Serious Fun designed to help pupils settle into life at Shrewsbury while participating in the breadth of opportunities available.

From the outset, pupils were introduced to the outstanding musical life of the school, highlighting the many avenues through which they can pursue their passions, from orchestras and choirs to bands, ensembles, and individual tuition.

Alongside this, new entrants took part in trials and introductory sessions across rowing, swimming, rugby, netball, cricket, and hockey. Sport at Shrewsbury is exceptionally wide-ranging, offering pupils the chance to discover and develop passions across more than 30 different disciplines, from traditional team games to individual pursuits such as fives, cross-country, climbing, canoeing, and sailing. Whatever the activity, pupils of all ages and abilities are encouraged to experience the motivating enjoyment of physical activity, to strive for excellence and to compete at all levels.

We also celebrated all pupils taking part in a Cross Country run around the School site, an annual highlight of the Fortnight. Third Form Cross Country winners Jasper H (S, III) and Indigo E (EDH, III) set the pace for an exciting season ahead.

Beyond sport and music, Foundation Fortnight offered opportunities to explore Shrewsbury’s vibrant co-curricular programme, with the Societies Fair introducing pupils to a remarkable range of clubs and activities, and inter-House matches giving pupils an early taste of friendly competition and teamwork.

All pupils embarked upon the year-long Third Form Drama programme. There will be several opportunities for them to audition for productions throughout the year, including house plays, the Junior Play and our biennial tour to the Edinburgh Fringe. Backstage enthusiasts were encouraged to sign up for Technical Theatre Society, where they can develop skills in lighting, sound, costume and set design.

The fortnight will conclude with New Entrants’ Concert on Saturday evening, a chance to hear some of this year’s new entrants in concert at Shrewsbury for the very first time, a joyful celebration of talent, enthusiasm, and the beginning of many exciting journeys to come. Limited tickets for the event are still available here.
