Pupils Reflect on Final Visit of the Year to Severndale Specialist Academy

"Medical Volunteering" is a Thursday afternoon activity mainly for those who wish to gain relevant work experience for applications to medical school.
In recent years we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Severndale Specialist Academy which caters for children with moderate to profound and complex learning difficulties; autism; and various physical or medical conditions that means that they cannot access a "mainstream" education.
On their weekly visits our pupils are placed individually into different Severndale classes to work closely with the children and their teachers. Our cohort this year has been the largest yet, and they have recently completed their emotional, final visit. I think many of them would willingly keep visiting next year!
Pupil Samantha Y, said:
“Spending every Thursday afternoon at Severndale was undoubtedly the highlight of my week. Getting to learn about how their unique schooling system works to support students of all ages and a wide range of abilities has really helped me appreciate the amount of care that goes into their education as well as their wellbeing.
“The overall friendly and welcoming atmosphere created by both staff and students made the experience particularly enjoyable and reinforced my passion for pursuing a career in healthcare and working with others.”
Mya B, also reflected:
“Working with the students each week at Severndale Academy has been both enjoyable and valuable. I have learnt so much throughout the year and am incredibly grateful to Dr Morgan, the staff and the students at Severndale for making this such a rewarding and memorable experience.”
