OS Motorbike adventure across Africa

Max Green (I 2015-20) and Fred Stephens (Rt 2016-21) are riding across Africa to raise money for Restart Africa with another friend, Jago Brooks.
Max and Fred graduated from Bristol University last summer. They started in South Africa on the 4th October at the most southern point of Africa. They then drove through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania- a total of 13,400 km that has taken roughly 9/10 weeks. They have slept in hammocks and tents the whole time they have been on the road. They’ve had many an adventure, navigating extreme weather, police stops, the jungle and wild animals.

Before the trip Max spent 3 months training as a mechanic and leaned how to strip a bike completely and put it back together- which proved invaluable! Fred learned advanced first aid and was the tour chef, and Jago was in charge of navigation. Their final destination is the Restart Centre at Gilgal in Kenya, a charity with strong links to Shrewsbury School. Restart provides a safe home, education, and medical care for children who’ve been abandoned, abused, or left to survive on the streets. It was founded in 2008 by Mary Coulson whose grandchildren all attended Shrewsbury.
