Shrewsbury
First Salopian Club Cinema Day a soaring success

The Old Market Hall Cinema welcomed a group of thirty Old Salopians, parents and their friends.
Grant Charlesworth-Jones (O 1991-96) writes: We had the whole cinema to ourselves and were very well looked after indeed. Top Gun Maverick did not disappoint - getting better with the years, just like Old Salopians...
Out of the cinema, along the road and into The Golden Cross for the warmest of welcomes - and more fizz. Angus Jagger (DB 1964-68) reminded us of his last appointment at the Old Market Hall when it was the Magistrates Court and he received a £5 speeding fine in the 1960's for riding his motorbike whilst still at School!
There was the usual banter and prizes for unworthy recipients; as we had the place to ourselves the Salopian exchanges ran riot as we enjoyed a terrific rib of beef in Shrewsbury's trusted hostelry well recognised by Shrewsbury senior staff nobility (Maidment, Caney et al). Ben (M 1898-94) and Emma of the Pryce family, having recently lost Glynne (M 1960-62) who we all miss, attended as planned; recent parents William and Nicki Combrinck and Monica and Paul Silva were also there as was James Evans (Rb 1992-97) and son Alfie.
Bruce Buglass from Shropshire Aero Club dropped in to remind us all of Saturday 12th July and their private air show with 400 planes coming in this year: https://www.shropshireaeroclub.com/sleapkosh Mclaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley and Lotus clubs are all in the conversation. The Salopian Drivers Club are hosting...
And finally, we can report that Holly Fitzgerald, who has supported this idea from the start, very much enjoyed the day and says that if we are all good in the Salopian Club generally, we can do it again next year. Holly gives her time in and out of hours to support and facilitate so many events and overwhelmingly everyone gave their thanks to Holly for ensuring that the Salopian Club keeps progressing.
