The Old Salopian Hunt Team triumph in the annual Alumni Race
The OSH achieved a historic 'one two' at the race in Roehampton last month.
The Thames Hare & Hounds Running Club has organised the Race for 73 years. It is run over a 5 mile Cross Country Course that takes in the varied conditions around the South-West corner of Wimbledon Common for the alumni of the Schools across the UK.
The Shrewsbury team took the top spot for the first time in 2023, last year they came a very creditable 2nd, but this year they went one better with a historic first place for Freddie Fielding (R2012-17) and second for George Mallett (S 2007-12).
Captain Ed Mallett (S. 2008-13) was third counter for The Team, with newest OSH Member, Harry Parker-McLain (I. 20-25) racing in to be fourth and then the rest of The Team put in excellent performances to ensure the winning team prize.
There were 195 finishers out of the 233 who registered, with 32 Teams entered. On further analysis of the results, The OSH Team was at 1st Place with 26 points, ahead of Bishops Cape Town with 58 and then Harrow with 66. The team also won “The Shrewsbury Cup” for the Age-Graded Race Team Category, with Michael Johnson (S 1955-60) winning the V80 Category. Freddie actually won two Cups,“The Norman Berry Cup” for being the First Individual Finisher and also “The Wyndham Halswell Cup” for becoming the leader of the Age-Graded Race Category.
