Shrewsbury
Sabrina crews triumph in two competitions

Congratulations to our Sabrina men's 8 who won gold in their event at the British Rowing Masters Championships at the weekend.
The 8+ achieved a time of 3.09.39 over the 1km race.

This follows two victories at the Shrewsbury Regatta in May when a men's 8 triumphed again and a coxed 4 made up of two fathers and sons came first in their events.
The racing coincided with a Sabrina reunion for all crews post 2003. This year the format was more informal to allow Old Salopians to bring their children. It made for a lovely event with a barbecue and plenty of ice cream on a warm, sunny spring Sunday and was topped off by an impromptu row past once the racing had finished.

All these victories have been particularly poignant as our current Director of Rowing Athol Hundermark was a member of all the successful crews including the 4 with his son Haydn (alongside James Russell PH 1990-95) and his son- a current pupil.
Athol is leaving at the end of the summer term to return to his native South Africa and will be much missed by the Sabrina Club members. Rowing Coach Ross La Maitre who rowed in both eights and is a Sabrina stalwart is also leaving.
There was an opportunity to formally thank Athol at the last Sabrina committee meeting of the academic year when a boat was officially named after him and he was presented with a beautifully painted commemorative oar.

A
(Athol with his wife Nina and daughter Kara)
Everyone in Sabrina Club wishes Athol and Ross all the very best for the future.
