In the final week of the April holiday the J16 and Senior rowers travelled to Spain for the annual training camp.

The Boat Club returned to Laias in Galicia on the banks of the river Minho

A big thank you to Mr Clark and Mr Ralley who left three days before the rest of the team and arrived back two days after the team as they took on the challenging task of transporting the significant load of boats on the four-thousand-kilometer return journey.

The journey was worth it as the team enjoyed fantastic weather conditions that were matched by the hotel and training facilities. The venue provided the perfect location for the camp.

The still water conditions made technical changes easier to coach and correct and the improvement from the start to the finish of the camp was tangible both visually and by the data recorded. The rowers great application on the water was matched by their efforts revising between sessions. It wasn’t all hard work and the chance to relieve some aching muscles in the geothermal pools that the hotel is based on provided a great distraction.

On the final day of the camp the crews put together the technical progress and race profile work they had been doing to take part in a full course piece on the buoyed two-thousand-meter course. All the crews put together solid performances that they can learn and build on going into a very busy regatta season.
